The Bosch 5.3 ABS is common for loss of communications which will cause the ABS warning light to become illuminated and will often prevent the dashboard speedometer from working. Detailed information can be found for the Daewoo Lanos and Vauxhall Omega and Vectra.

  • P0500 – Vehicle speed sensor malfunction

The Bosch 5.7 & 5.7ASG ABS predominantly fails for faults relating to wheel speed sensors which can also affect the operation of the speedometer.

  • 30 – Wheel speed signal, rear left
  • 31 – Wheel speed signal, rear right
  • P0501 – Front left speed sensor

Primarily affecting the Mercedes Sprinter (click for detailed information) this Bosch 5.7P ABS will cause the ABS and traction control light to become illuminated and the ABS control unit will typically store a return pump fault code.

Common fault codes:

  • C1401 – Return pump fault
  • C142F – Right rear wheel speed sensor
  • C1302 – Inlet valve front right

This Bosch 5.7S ABS pump and module will commonly cause the ABS warning light to come on as soon as the ignition is turned, fault codes that this ABS system type stores often cannot be cleared until it has been repaired.

  • C1266 – ABS valve power relay circuit failure

This variation of the 8th generation Bosch ABS infamously causes drastic problems for the Vauxhall Corsa D (click for more information). The common fault is complete lack of braking effort to the front left brake caliper, this results in the vehicle dangerously pulling to the right side of the road during braking.

Common fault symptoms:

  • Swerving hard to the right while braking
  • No brake fluid reaching front left brake caliper

Affected Vehicles:

  • VAuxhall Corsa D

Spanning over a decade, across multiple vehicles, the 8th generation of Bosch ABS units suffer common defects including the pump motor running all the time, even with ignition off and the key removed, or not running at all. This ABS system, fitted to high-end vehicles, has a bad reputation for preventing the speedometer from working. Often internal failure will prevent communications to the ABS system.

Common fault symptoms:

  • No communication to the ABS
  • Speedometer not working

  • BMW 3 Series, 5 series, X5, X6
  • Ferrari California
  • Mercedes CLS

  3. Package the Bosch ABS unit securely in a box with ample packaging material (include the confirmation email in the box).
