BMW ABS Pump ECU Module

The ABS Pump Module ECU, specifically the Bosch 5.7 & 5.3 models, is a common source of issues in the BMW 5 Series E39, frequently leading to the ABS warning light appearing on the dashboard. Typically starting as an intermittent problem, it progresses to a persistent issue over time, often triggering fault codes related to wheel speed sensors, particularly the rear right sensor. This can result in the loss of the speedometer function.

To address this, the module can be easily removed by unscrewing the six torx screws holding it in place on the side of the ABS pump hydro unit, conveniently located under the bonnet on the right inner wing.
